Hello! I have my first gecko, Mokee, so of course I am very worried about him all the time :) I don't think anything horrible has happened yet, but I think it might be good to dose with panacur, and wanted to see your thoughts before I do so. I do have access to a great reptile vet locally, but would like to dose panacur and after that probiotics before going to see him.

About your leo:
- Sex: possibly male
- Age & Weight: 11 g
- How long have you owned your leo: about 2.5 weeks
- Where was he/she obtained (ex. Pet store, breeder, wild caught, friend): +++++

A) Health/History
- How often do you handle your leo: I was handling him for a short time (10 minutes) daily during the second week, but have not been handling much since he stopped eating.
- Is your leo acting any different today? If so how does he/she normally act which differs from now. He has stopped eating for a total of four days now, and seems to sleep a lot more often.
- Has he/she had any problems in the past, if so please describe. None that I know of
B) Fecals
- Describe (look any different than normal): today, as expected, he did not have a large amount of stool passed, but it was smelly
- When was the last time he/she went: he goes daily
C) Problem
- Please briefly describe the problem and how long it has been going on: 2.5 weeks ago I got Mokee from +++++. In a small display containing about 5 leos, he was the only one that looked healthy with a chubby tail. I figured there might be a risk of parasites etc. He was eating voraciously from day one, and by the second week was climbing into my hand to eat. He seemed to enjoy chasing mealworms but did not seem to like the supplement powders at all, smacking his lips for a long while after each worm. About four days ago he ate 3 dusted worms and then stopped eating altogether. So now the 4 day has ended and he still has not eaten. Only one odd-looking bowel movement, which was today. It was a but runny and smelly but I could not clearly see parasites (though I know they may be too small to see). While he usually camps out next to his warm hide, today he spent all day in his moist hide. He has been a lot less active in general from what I can tell. Today, I was able to get his attention long enough to lick one of the mealworms, but ten he walked away to go back to sleep.'

His weight 1.5 weeks ago was 11 g, then it was up to 12 g, and now we're back to 11 g. I'm not too scared of that weight loss but I'm just so nervous about how anorexic his cage-mates looked at +++++.

Housing:
A) Enclosure
- Size: 14.5 x 19"
- Type (ex. glass tank): wooden viv
- Type of substrate: tile
- Hides, how many, what kind: 3 (warm, cool, humid)
B) Heating
- Heat source: UTH
- Cage temps (hot side, cool side) 90 F on floor on hot side, 76 on floor on cool side.
- Method of regulating heat source: thermostat
- What are you using to measure your temps: digital infrared thermometer
- Do you have any lights (describe): dimmed, non-heating LED's as a daylight source for day/night cycle (my room is pitch black for energy savings)
C) Cage mates
- How many (males, females): none
- Describe health, or previous problems: none that I know of

Describe Diet:
A) Typical diet
- What you're feeding (how often, how much): meal worms, small, 15/day ish or more if he's begging. Plan to switch to silkworms when they are in stock locally
- How are you feeding (hand fed, left in dish, ect): a few in the palm of my hand, the rest go on the tile a few at a time for him to hunt.
B) Supplements (describe how often)
- What vitamin/minerals are you using (list brands): Zoo Med Vit calcium with D once/week, reptivite without d3 once/week, xoo med without d the rest of the week
- What are you gut loading food with: steel cut oats, spirulina, carrot

I'm so sorry if there are any typos, I am falling asleep as I am typing thing
Oh goodness

Anyhow, thank you for looking through Mokee's info and for any tips you can give me.

hi there.
you haven't had him long and most leos do go on a hunger strike when you first get them. the move can be very stressful, new environment, sighs, sounds and smells ect.
so in that respect its quite normal. i am concerned about the watery stools, as you said there is a chance he could have internal parasites. nearly all reptiles do and stress lowers the immune system giving the parasites a brief chance to create havoc.
I would suggest a quick checkup at the vets and a stool sample. they will be able to treat it easily before anything gets worse.

From what I can see he looks alright. Next step would be to get us a picture of the stool. Another thing you can try to get him to eat is give him more options. My geckos is a mix of meal worms, super worms, wax worms(Only every two or three weeks), and crickets. Once mine are big enough I will be switching from crickets to dubias. Also, has he shed yet? My little geckos are pretty weird when it comes to going in shed. Mine will stop eating a day or so before they shed and then wont eat a day after they shed. You if see her getting skinnier, like very noticeably skinny, take her to the vet asap. Before you go to the vet, make sure to collect a fecal sample that is fresh (under 24 hours old) to bring to them. Ask them to do a parasite screening and see if anything comes up. If you can't get the poop to the vet before 24 hours, put it in the refrigerator. If your gecko ends up having a parasite that can be taken care of with medication, makes sure when you get home to clean out the cage really well. Clean out the sides and bottom with 1:10 bleach solution, and soak all the decorations in the tank in a 1:10 solution. While he is recovering make sure to keep up the tank really well and keep it very clean. Every time you handle your gecko you need to wash your hands as well. You don't want to cure the gecko, then give it the parasite again. Any time you get a new leopard gecko, you should always have it screened. I'm pretty sure it's not expensive at all. Like 20-30 dollars or something like that.

Okay, so I gotta get him so poop... I'll grab some wax worms/crickets and see if I can bribe him to eat to get his bowels moving again. I'll get a photo if something happens. No poop today that I saw :(

I did think he was going in to shed, but I've never actually seen him... peely?

I'm going to watch his weight closely.

I'm going to grab a collection container from my lab tomorrow so I can save some poop for the vet.

Could I use the medical grade cleaning wipes I used at work to clean surfaces? That stuff kills almost everything and takes paint off the walls, but dries and airs out safe-to-touch over and over again.

Thanks you all :D

Yes that would be perfectly fine to send it to the lab yourself. Quite a few breeders do that to skip over the pricey vet bills. To answer the cleaning question. I would stick to something you know what is in it and if it's harmful to reptiles or not. Some things may not be harmful to humans, but can be harmful to reptiles. I wouldn't want to risk it. So you can either do the bleach thing or get reptile safe cleaner from a pet store/ online. I myself use reptile safe cleaner bought from a pet store.

thanks for the tips :) I will look at the reptile safe cleaners for sure. Is white vinegar okay as a general cleaning aid?

Th medical cleaning stuff... is not supposed to come in contact with human skin when it's wet. So it's probably not worth the risk :p

Yeah for humans my office hands out a lot of self-pay lab kits... for when the CDC or insurances can't keep up with diagnostic needs. There are some scary-outdated/inefficient lab tests in use.
But anyhow that made me think there was probably mail-in fecals for pets, and what do you know, there is! Yay.

You can do a diluted white vinegar cleaner (1 part vinegar/5 parts water), same mix of rubbing alcohol, or what I feel personally is the best is, Chlorhexdine.

There are a few at the pet store that are good as well. I have had good luck with the Wipe Out.

So man options :)

Good news! (I guess)

Mokee ate one worm today! Still waiting on poop to happen, though. Since he ate -- maybe tomorrow?

So it looks like it really was a protest of some sort. Now he will eat, no problem, unless I try to dust with repti vite. Then he's done with food for the day. I'm going to try switching to repashy to see if he will take food dusted with that instead... he is okay with the calcium with/without D, just not the current multivite.

I did manage to get some probiotics into him by mixing powder with water and putting drops on his nose.

Mokee's weight is back up & gaining -- 14g today! Yay! Bowel movements look normal, brown formed & clear of worms. No liquid poops after that one.

I may still send out the stool culture since I already have the kit, and can definitely get poop now.

I'm so happy he is doing well. Do make a forum in the "show off your gecko" area and up date us on him as he grows. I love seeing pictures of geckos. What's cool is that as they grow their pattern and color changes so if you take pictures as they grow you can see the change happen from when they were little. If you check out my forum Ruvik's Geckos on the show off your gecko forum you can see what I am talking about. I show everything to do with my geckos. Event he rate of growth.

Will do :D I think Mokee's just an albino, but he's my first baby so I'm so excited to see him grow up. (even if I'm a nervous wreck the whole time, hoping he's gaining at a proper rate)

I also put a deposit down on a very interesting looking Mack Snow Eclipse :D That one, I'm very very excited to watch grow.

It reminds me of the data I collect at my job (in pediatrics). I wonder if growth charts are a thing in geckos at all, too XD

Well I have a growth chart so if you wanna go off of mine to see if yours is growing about the same then you can. I feed my geckos 10 crickets, so they each get five. Then I have a dish of mealworms large and giant, and super worms in their cage at all time. I change the worm dish out once a week. then every two weeks they both get two wax worms. I know that very soon I will be switching them off of crickets and putting them on dubias. I just want to wait til their are fully grown for that.
