Alright, I just bought Two geckos,1, 1yr old Leopard Gecko, and a 2yr old Tayco Gecko, 33 gallon long aquarium and with screen cover, lamp, and heating pad from a kid in town for $100. I know I should not have them housed together but they get along real well and are apparently inseparable. I have done alot of research to find out the basics of keeping geckos, Any tips seeing I am new? Also, Any ideas for improvements to there habitat is also appreciated.

separate them!

i cant at the moment, i only have one aquarium for them, the leopard is a male and the tayko female so they are around the same size and neither are aggressive. i don't think they will like living with my snake... they have been living fine together for nearly a year. I plan on regulating the humidity to about %60 so that both should be comfortable.

well if you have to keep them together( and you need to seperate them because they need different enviroments) you need to add some large sticks or braches because the tokay is arboreal meaning tree dwelling.

- good call, i will go to the local petshop tomorrow to see what they have in there recently expanded store:D, I plan on in the next couple weeks to redo the floor with ceramic tile, make a new cover, and decorate it to keep them better entertained.

NOOOOOO, I said I dont think they would like it with my snake, meaning I would NOT put them together. I dont want to know what might happen, and i do not intend to find out.

And if the humidity is too much then the leopard gecko has potential to get a respiratory problem.

They are quite separable - not only because of their different environmental needs but also because reptiles do not form bonds. They actually may be quite stressed by one another but you may not realize it. I would remove one or the other ASAP. The tokay could probably use a taller tank so it can climb as well..

er...
I wouldn't have those two living together.
I know you only have one tank.

But here's the deal: Two different geckos that require two totally different environments.
Looks to me like you have it set up for the leopard gecko.

Your poor tokay isn't getting near as much climbing space.

I'd be tempted, if I were you, to go out and buy a 16.5 quart rubbermaid/sterilite container and put your leopard gecko in that.
Turn your 33 gallon on its side (so that it goes long way up), keep the screen on it, and allow your tokay to stay in that.

you are not going to be able to maintain the humidity your tokay needs in a leopard gecko environment.

according to the Kid i bought them from that has kept them together for over a year. He had the Tokay since it was very young and is very very tame, I cant even get it bite me. Anyway next week I will be moving the Tokay to a 25gal taller aquarium. I may also move the Leopard to a 20gal and get rid of the 33gal they are in now. Today I did a little remolding on there tank. The black thing is a Humidity box with a nice moss bottom. Neither has used it yet tho, probably because they have never had one before.

umm. Everybody said what I have to say.

Just because someone had it for a year before you doesn't mean they were doing everything right. With every new animal it is YOUR responsibility to do research and provide the best possible care for them while they are in your possession. I hope you hold on to the bit of information for next time.

Yea, that is why i am separating them. I did research and i am doing what is best by separating them ASAP. Its a learning experience like Everything in life and you learn from mistakes, and from the help of others. I Am taking responsibility and trying to learn as much as possible making as little mistakes as possible. Thanks to the people who have tried to help so far.

Wow. The people on this forum are very...um...can't think of the word. Calm? I feel like screaming my head off at this idio- guy right now. Very frustrating to see what he's doing.

I know he said he will separate them, but I sort of doubt that. People will tell you what you want to hear. This is actually making me feel sad that hes mixing these 2 species.
