New Humid Hide Boxes

I had a flash of inspiration... These aren't as spiffy as everyone else's things, really. But I liked them regaurdless...

My geckos love to climb ontop of their hide boxes and the greenery I had on it continued to fall off, usually with the geckos. Well, when Lilith began laying eggs, I started to freak out about her falling... And voila!

Her box...

And Frankie's box...

I'm letting them dry so there's no fumes or anything else weird about them. And then filling them up and putting them in.
I sanded the edges down a bit, so they're not as jagged. Realized they look terrible after the pictures.

Those are neat and "dress-up" a humid box nicely!! I kind of hate how my cage is all set up and then I have his plain ol' tupperware bin it in. LOL I think I need to find some plants now. Do you have to buy special plants to add to your set-ups or can you just go into the craft area of any store and pick them up??

I did this with my humid hides as well, except I never got around to actually gluing the plants :D. If you want to take it one step furthur paint the tuperware grey or brown, it looks awesome. Also, to save money, go buy fake plants at a craft store or even Wal Mart, I paid $4 each for a bunch that were attatched together and I just took wire cutters and separated them

Don't want to hijack a thread but... :main_rolleyes:

I've been having the damndest time finding fake plants and vines.

Seriously! I find them everywhere! lol
Go anywhere like Wal-Mart, a local craft store or floral shop. Best of all though... The Dollar Store! Buy four bunch fo 4$ instead of 1! I'm a little picky with the plants I use so I found some nice vinny ones at Winners Homescense. Just take a peek when your out shopping around.

All I did was take the vine ones from the dollar store and from Walmart, detach the hard/stiff parts to it (they were twist-tied together), and hot glued them down. I aired them out for a day to make sure they were COMPLETELY dry and didn't smell like burnt plastic or anything weird...

So yes, vines are EVERYWHERE. Walmart, craft stores, Dollar stores... And the Dollar store ones are just as good as the craft store ones when it comes to gluing them down! :D In my opinion, anyway... :main_thumbsup:

Thanks for all the compliments!

Also, about painting them... I've been thinking about that... Is acrylic paint okay or is there a certain brand to go for?

I just use arcrylic but I would imagine spray paint or some of that airpaint would work better as you can't get arcrylic paint wet once it dries. This isn't a problem for me cause they stay in one tank only and I don't really need to clean them, if I needed to disinfect the tank I would just throw it out as mine are made from margerine/sour cream containers so there free anyways. Just make sure whatever paint you use gets dried out and you should be fine. Also, im wondering if waterproof house paint would work? That would make life easier.

We no longer have any craft type stores in my area, and walmart has a very small section of artificial plants (most of which are in pots and full arrangments). I will try the dollar store, never considered that one.
