newgeck12.28.jpg So I got this new juvie a couple of days ago. I have a couple of questions. First of all, is it okay that it hasn't eaten since I got it? I know some geckos need an adjusting period, but my adult gecko started eating right away and this one doesn't seem interested at all. I am worried because it is so little, I don't know how long it can go without eating. Also, it is missing it's toes on it's right hand right? I didn't notice this until the other day. Will this affect the gecko? I also noticed that it has shed attached to it's toes. I want to remove it, but this little guy is very fast and I'm not sure how to hole onto him while applying baby oil. Is there some other technique I should try? He has a moist hide but hasn't really used it, I think he may be scared of it? Can anyone help me? Tips, etc?

The missing toes wont affect the gecko at all, its just a little less grip so his/her hand may kinda slip. My female is missing 4 toes on here right hand (seems common on the right foot... weird) she has no problem with anything. Try giving giving a bath for the stuck shed, make shure she/he uses the moist hide (if they he/she doesnt have one get one)

when he's standing in the water use a tweezer to pull off the shed. you don't have to touch the leo at all if you're careful. The not eating thing is normal. And he has a pretty good sized tail so he's definitely not in danger of starving

Thanks Phoenix! Do you happen to know what morph this will likely be? I have my guesses, but juvies confuse the heck out of me in regards to what they will mature to be.

Looks like a hypo tangerine to me. If the spots stay he may not be a hypo. I would try to bath idea, IMO its the most stress-free way of helping to loosed stuck shed. If a 10 minute soak or two doesn't get the shed off then a careful try with some tweezers may be needed. Good luck! He's a cute little guy!

UPDATE: The only mealworms I have gotten him to eat, he has later regurgitated. He refuses to eat mealworms now and only will eat one wax worm every now and then. His tail has gotten thinner and I'm not sure what to do. Help?

His tail has gotten thinner and I'm not sure what to do. Help?"-----------------------------------------------------1. Absolutely quarantine this Leo from your other one(s). No living together or even washing their water dishes in the same sink. (worst parasite is the indestructable crypto...pray it isn't that)2. Where did you get your Leo? (please don't say petstore because they don't properly quarantine new deliveries, so sick ones can get the healthy-looking ones contaminated)3. Is your FLOORtemp 90F on the hotside, and cooler on the cool side? (improper digestion, upset stomach, lack of appetite)4. Do this anyway for any stuck shed-skin: Soak in warm 90F water for 10 minutes, twice a day. Then try to gently remove shed-skin...some say tweezers..my leos are tame enough I can gently rub the shed towards the toe-tips and it comes off. Back to the eating/vomiting problem....after the warm bath, gently rub the belly from midsection down to vent (at start of tail) to aid in digestion, gently break up "firm poops", and possibly loosen impaction-blockages.5. Don't spoil them on wax-worms. But do the waxworms stay down? 6. What are the details on the fecals? Plenty of urate probably, but what about the poop: runny, diarhea, no-poop, foul-smells?7. Have you tried crickets instead of mealworms? (changing the menu may stimulate appetite)8. If it is a petstore gecko and it has diarhea/runny poops, more vomiting, and/or still won't eat, I would get a fecal test for crypto and/or return it to the store. If they say you have kept the gecko beyond the "health-guarantee period," show them the No-eating problem was documented on this forum in December so the problem has DEFINITELY existed since your original post date.9. google-search: "Leopard gecko slurry" for appetite-inducing paste for Leo's just lost their appetite. That's all the advice I can give. Good Luck!!
