Hey guys. My new (got it last Saturday) leo seems to be settling into his space nicely but I noticed yesterday that sometimes when he is in his moist/humid hide that he is lapping up the wet paper towel. I hear this is just how they would naturally get their water (dew) but I have yet to see him drink from his water dish. He is eating okay (when I drop mealies, still not from his dish for that either) and his poop has the white cap so I know he's getting his fluid. I just want to make sure him licking his wet paper towel is ok. Thanks!

Hello! It took Sonny a while to use the water dish. I have a feeling she never used it because she didn't really know it was there xD Until after about 2 or 3 months of having her, did she start using it. Mainly because one night she watched me take out the dish for cleaning (I change the water every other day) and was like "Hey! What's going on?!". Then I put it back and she saw me pour the water into it and was like hmmm... She came out of her hide, licked the dish, got on top of it, and walked in the water. She flinched and was like *realization dawns* ohhhhh...water! Since then, she's been using the dish xD Before that, though, she would go to the humid hide and lick the condensation off the ceiling of the hide. She never licked the paper towel. Since yours is licking the paper towel, I would make sure to change it everyday because bacteria can really grow on it, and we don't want your gecko licking a bacteria infested paper towel haha Maybe you can try pouring water into the dish in front of your gecko. It might work :) Hope I helped!

He probably does drink from the water dish, you just never see him because you are asleep when he does it.

I'm guessing so too. The water level in the dish all day doesn't go down at all (thus very little evaporation) but just in 8 hours while I sleep the water level goes down so I'm hoping he does.
