I just picked up my first Leo today and the owner was giving him and 9 others away.

I never really gave it much thought because i fell in love with him, but i noticed that his two front feet have really stubby toes. I then realized that they don't have nails.

I was just wondering if not having nails in the front would pose any problems i should be aware of? Love the Leo, its just a shame he lost all his front toes. :(

Typically toes are lost when the gecko has had a bad shed, and the stuck skin was not removed. A gecko can live a long happy life missing a few toes. This does throw up a flag that the animal may have some issues shedding, or that there might have been some husbandry issues with the previous owner. Supply some extra humidity when he goes into shed. Make sure there is no stuck shed anywhere after he has cleaned himself up. If so, you will want to get that off so he doesn't lose anything else.

What materials do you prefer the most?

I have been using this zoomed moss, it seems to hold the moisture well. Also if I see some shedding around the toes I wet them good with a wet q-tip and rub lightly.
