Hi everyone, I am a new member here on this great forum and a new Leopard Gecko owner. This is the enclosure ‘Roger’ my little guy/girl lives in.

At the moment the ‘hot’ side of the tank (under the blue bulb above the main bark hideaway) is at 82 Fahrenheit, and ‘cool’ side (where the stone and moist hideaway) is at 78-80 Fahrenheit. I was wondering if this set-up and temp is ok for a gecko two weeks of age?

During the day he sleeps in the moist ‘cool’ hideaway, moving onto the large rock on the left hand side to cool down if needed. At night I currently turn the light off (which drops the temp somewhat to around 76 Fahrenheit) so he moves to the ‘hot’ side under the bark hideaway.

Is this setup normal or ok for the little guy? He is eating fine (6 medium crickets in one sitting!!!) and actively allows me to hold him without hissing or freaking out :)

Many thanks guys

It seems good but you need to elevate the temps on the 'hot side'. You don't have much of a heat gradient going on there. I personally like 94 degrees but there is a great debate on temps. Ron Tremper and some of his followers/fans use his philosophy that the warm side should be at least 87*F but no higher than 90*F. Others like myself like higher temps! And that side of the argument starts at around 90* and go all the way up to 97*. At the end it's your decision and what works for you and your gecko but your 'hot side' should be warmer.

Ok il look into it. Many thanks on the fast reply :main_thumbsup:. The temps are rough estimates as they do vary throughout the day (im a full time Marine Biologist Uni Student so cant check on him 24/7). I juts dont want to overheat/freeze the little fella.

I understand I'm a student myself. Leave at 7-8am and don't get back until like 5-6om, lol. To keep my temps semi constant I have a Under Tank Heater connected to a thermostat and have it set at 94 and I have a thermometer so when I'm home I can glance over and make sure the temps are how I like them. I used a light bulb before but I could never get the right temp, is drove me nuts!

sorry to jump on the forum but how does the thermostat on your UTH work
And It looks like you only have 2 hides
I would suggest to get/make another and make sure he has a moist hide a hot and a cool hide in his cage

I basically plug my Under Tank Heater into my thermostat, then turn around and plug my thermostat into the wall. I place the probe thats attached to the thermostat on the warm side and then turn the dial to my desired temperature and it'll turn off when it gets too hot and turn back on when the temps start to drop.

I believe you have your gecko on sand? if so GET IT OUT OF THERE RIGHT NOW! Geckos should never be on sand, when they eat their prey they can get impacted with sand in their intestines and could get sick or even worse die. PLEASE take them off the sand as soon as possible! Use paper towel, or even better tile. Easy to clean and very safe!
