Just make sure that if that's calcium sand (especially) to provide a seperate dish of calcium supplement, and to never feed the gecko on the sand. Most sands, especially calcium sand have impacted geckos from accidental ingestion, and have killed them. Calcium sand is the worst of them because the sand tends to stick together when moist.

nope hale, that is indeed play sand that you are looking at. the geckos are also adults. the big feeding tray is up towards the right side as well. i think i may add maybe 1 or 2 more pieces of slate but i need to cut them b4 i do that.

My bad, I did not realized play sand comes in different colors. I always thought it was just a tan color...but good for me, cuz I prefer that color above, and wanted some sort of sand for my tank. It's easier to clean and more realistic I think.

Are you kidding $1000.00. We can do that cage with front sliders for about $250-$300. Depending upon 3/16" or 1/4" glass and exact dimensions.

actually no... the people that sell them near my house must be making a fortune then. i swear ive seen smaller ones go for 899.00. when you sell them is that with the stand and everything? only thing im finding i dont like too much is the glass is thick so that plus my slate isnt keeping it too warm im also having to add a heat light. still cant complain though:)

When making a rock wall, be sure to use a paint brush to wipe the grout around the polystirene. If you try using your hands, it will just make everything rough, and will not look good.

the guy at home depot suggested using paper and pressing it in different areas to give it a natural look. anyone try this?

I try not to get into the stands much. I will do them but, it is not part or the tank price, and Im not that cheap on stands. Just being honest. The stand and canopy would run you, again with out being exact, about the same as the tank.

As for the heat situation use heat tape. I haven't ever had that big of a problem with heat loss. This cage does fine for our green retic.

I've heard of doing this with construction paper, or like a heavier paper of sorts. Basic idea is to crumple up the paper in a ball and then then pull it back out. Now the paper will have texture, then you paint it accordingly. I saw it done on a home decorating show, on the walls of a house. Looked cool in application there, but I am not sure how it would look in a gecko cage.

Some kind of Foaming insulation might be a good idea, though I'd test it on something you didn't care about first.

The other idea would be what I am going to try, thin layers of slate and glue them to the back. However you want to make sure they aren't going to just fall off.

thats the same shape as my tank, what size is yours? mines is 24inches across the front, the small side bits are about 6 inches and the back panels are 24inches, think mines is about 18 inches high, iv not put my gecko in it yet, i have him in a smaller plastic box until he is a bit older, plus i need a bigger heatmat to keep the bigger tanks warm enough

when you make the second story and rock wall that is going to look KICK ASS!

About the wall....

I work at petsmart and we recently started selling these foam walls. They have underground hides and other things as well. They run about 25 bucks and only come in a 10 gallon size. I was going to get one but 25 bucks for foam seems insane. I keep telling myself that i need to make one for my babies. But yea, if you have a petsmart near you then check them out, just to get an idea or something. They do look pretty cool and I imagine that they wouldnt be tooo hard to make.
