Hey everybody! Ive always had Reptiles when i was younger. I had a 6 foot Iguana, few smaller ones, few dragons, turtles ect. After many years i decided i want to get back into the addiction and get me some crested.

I have a 10 gal tall thinking of picking up 2 small Crested by the end of the week.

Ive read a-lot of your treads and cant wait to get back into caring for such beautiful and lovely creatures.

Any advice form personal experience would be nice other then the typical stuff u normally read before buying a pet. :main_thumbsup:

If you're getting babies I would recommend using two large kritter keepers for their housing, and move them into bigger tanks when they hit 10 grams

I agree, it's best to keep just one crestie per enclosure till they're old enough to sex and you can confirm 2 females. And I'd personally plan to upgrade a crestie to something at least 20 gallons in size once it passes about 15 grams or so.

I've got a pretty detailed Crestie caresheet on my website (link in my sig).

Make sure you do a lot of research, have the appropriate food and it is better for babies if they have a critter keeper. One ten gallon tank is better for just one cresty.

What was previous stated is true, so I will point out on others.

When buying from a breeder ask things like what food do they feed, if they stated baby food, even if it is baby food mixed with CGD, I highly suggest looking else where.

When picking your gecko out look beyond the color and pattern, by that I mean look at the crest structure, yes if these are going to be pets only it doesnt really matter. But remember these are crested geckos...not crestless gecko :)

When you bring them home, you wont see them eat much, that is normal if they are small you will not see them eating alot of CGD. But so long as youre seeing feces (which is another reason to house separately, will go into later) you know they are eating.

As stated on housing earlier, there are reasons to keep them separated well before the sexes are known. For one if they are not from the same breeder, or even previously housed together, you are going to want to QT them from one another for 60 days. But this is also important even if they were housed together. If you keep them in pairs you can not tell which is eating and which is not, as stated above they do not eat a noticeable amount. So by keeping them separated you can monitor their feces to know if they are eating or not.

And simple is best, just keep them on paper towels, use pop lids for food and water, along with some fake plants, this is honestly the safest way to keep them when they are small.

Normally a bald baby will be a bald adult. Crests do grow to a certain extent but you will never see a bald baby grow into a crowned adult. And you can always tell what babies are going to be crowned or close to it simply by the size of their crests. Babies can be born with big crests. So when youre looking at them, just example the crests and be sure they look proportionate to the head then you know you will have something with decent crest structure.
