I've attached a picture of the tank setup for the Gecko I'm planning on purchasing. It's a 20L tank with 3 hides (hot, cool, and moist), ceramic tile substrate, and bowls for mealworms, water, and calcium. I've purchased an Ultratherm UTH and a Hydrofarm electronic thermostat (you can see the thermostat probe going down the back of the tank and sitting by the rock hide). There is also a screen top for that tank that is sitting behind it in the picture. I bought an infrared temperature gun to check the surface temp easily to verify the thermostat is working properly.
The UTH is still in the mail and should be here soon. Ultratherms don't have adhesive and I was planning on just using duct tape around the edges. Is that the best way to attach it?
For vitamins, I purchased calcium without d3 to leave in the tank at all times and Reptivite with D3 to dust the feeder insects with. I plan on using mealworms mostly with crickets about once a week.
This will be my first Gecko (I've had Iguanas and Bearded Dragons in the past, but it was over 15 years ago when I was a teenager). I want to introduce my kids to keeping and caring for reptiles and, after doing some research, I figured a leopard gecko would be a perfect first reptile.
I'm a beginner with Geckos, so please let me know if I am forgetting anything I will need or if I have set something up incorrectly. I want to have everything I need and have it all set up properly before bringing a Gecko home. Any advice or help is appreciated! The forum has been great so far to just look around and get a ton of good information.
