Hi Guys,

I'm completely new to geckos! Basically I own a lot of fish however cannot keep them for much longer.

Basically I'm getting the Exo Terra PT2607 vivarium, now I need help setting it up and populating it.

I was planning on getting 2 (maybe 3) geckos. I'm just wondering, what geckos can be kept together. I know you can only have 1 male.

The ones that I had my eye on are:
Crested Gecko
Ocellated Velvet Gecko
Madagascan Ground Gecko

what can be kept together?
what do I need?
any other suggestions?

Thanks
JM

Do not mix different species. They generally have different needs and it's just an all around bad idea for their saftey.

I don't know anything about the Velvet or ground geckos, but I do have Cresties. They don't need a heat source as long as they are kept at a decent room temp. They can live off crested gecko diet (powder that you add to water to make a fruit based food for them) or you can even feed it dry if you train them (4 of mine will take it that way, only 1 will not.) I keep all of mine seperate mainly because my one female tends to be a bit grouchy at times. And unless you are ready for eggs, don't plan on putting a male with a female. There's actually a pretty good crestie section of the forums that you can check out.

I can't tell you anything really on the velvet geckos, so I will leave that to somebody else. The type of vivarium you want to purchase is more conducive to the needs of a crestie, since cresties like tall enclosures. The Madagascar ground gecko (aka pictus) likes lower darker places, similar to leos and AFTs. A vivarium that open will probably stress out the pictus. I have actually found that my collection of pictus tend to do better in hatchling tubs rather than adult tubs or large tanks. Cresties are pretty easy to keep. You would not want to keep Cresites and pictus together as they have very different requirements. Pictus are insectivores usually eating crickets or mealworms. Cresties can live long happy lives with CGD only, or CGD and crickets. Pictus require a ground source hot spot same as leos and AFTs. Cresties need to stay at room temperature. If they got as hot as pictus need to get, they might overheat and die. Check out care sheets for the different species, and that might help you decide which species you will have the most fun having.
