mayhem1.jpg mayhem2.jpg I got my first leopard gecko last week. I got it from a pet store they said it was about two months old and appeared healthy and active. It was right around the same size as the other leos it was housed with. I got him/her home and in its new tank set up, seems to be doing fine, however I have not seen him/her drink yet or get in to its humid hide yet? Also the book all the pictures I have seen all the geckos have nice fat tails my lil guys tail is not nearly as fat is this because he is young or should I be concerned because of dehydration????

Please Help.
Thank You in advance.

Your little guy looks heathy. At that age, the tail stays thinner. As song as he's eating and gaining weight, don't worry absout Thr tail just yet. It'll grow on its own.

My geckos didn't use their wet hides for a few days to a few weeks when I first brought them home. They just have to settle in before doing much else. Imagine being something that's usually eaten in the wild and shipped across the county, put in a small tank with 10 other geckos, and then a week later boxed up and taken to another place with a new tank!

As for that sand... I'd take it out and replace it tile of paper towels. If he eats any of it, there is a chance that it could block his intestines can likely kill him. Sand is also a pain to clean, and gets smelly after a few months.

Thank you. I wasn't sure when their tails started developing. All the pictures I have seen of sick and dehydrated geckos they have skinny tails and I got worried. Should I be worried since I haven't seen him drink out of his water dish yet? As for the sand I actually have a reptile carpet in there now.

No, his tail looks pretty good for a pet store gecko. It is a little thin, but he's got a good weight over all it seems, so I wouldn't worry :)

I honestly don't even use a water dish. My three all drink from their moist hides. Saves floor space lol
