Hello all. I just recently recieved a leopard gecko from a friend that was moving away to college. She told me he's pushing 7 years old but seems very healthy. Just browsing around the site to find useful info, looking to build him a new enclosure or redo the one he's in now. its just basic as it sits with a water bowl, a hide, and a small rock in the middle for decorations i suppose. she told me he's only been eating mealworms or superworms, doesnt want crickets anymore. Im wanting to get him some better hiding places, different lighting, and overall make him a happier gecko. Here are some crappy pictures i have of him right now.

one thing ive noticed about him is some of his toes seem to have gotten cut off or something, they are more nubs than anything

Congratulations on the new Leo! and welcome to GF. I'm more that positive you will find all the info you need here :D

and the loss of toes is probably due to bad sheds. its' doesn't apear that he has a moist hide of any sort in there. jus read around in the housing section and you will find PLENTY of info.. to get your new leo's home in proper order ;)

Please start by removing the sand, it's very dangerous for them (if they eat it, they can't digest it, and it can built up in their system, and be fatal). A second hiding place would also be good for him too.

Welcome to GeckoForums :)

as ive been researching. ive seen alot of people using like ceramic tiles for their floor. i think im gonna do that once i get paid again. Would a piece of tupperware with a hole cut out be a good moist hiding place for them? even if its kinda see through?

awesome. just found a square piece laying around and cutting a hole in it. hopefully the better half doesnt notice, i tried finding one of the crappy old ones, but o well. i looked around on his feet and found some leftover skin from his last shed on his feet, so ive been working on getting it off, but he got mad and didnt want to be held anymore

Soak him in a container with water just up to the bottom of his belly. The water should not feel cool or warm to you, since your body is roughly 98 degrees. Soak him for 30 minutes, and then rub the skin gently off of his toes :)

yeah. i was messing with him and got it of most of his toes. got a few more to go. ive gotta lve for school so ill try the soaking him in water later. he's got a ton of energy so its hard to keep him still, guess ill try the sink. I had a jackson chameleon a few years ago, but he passed away so ive been reptileless for a few years, just happy that i got to get this gecko for the excellent price of $0

get rid of sand and get repti carpet and also get him a hide and make a moist hide immediately look up to make em it's simple..... Also get an under tank heater if you don't have one allready
