Hello, my names Jessika. After a couple months of research and contemplating I broke down and brought home two hatchling leopard geckos three days ago. Theyve been doing great, both eating a few baby crickets the last few days and have been pretty active and curious at night. I already enjoy owning these litle guys lol.
I hate for this to be my first post, but I have a problem. Today when I got home from work and went to check on them my boyfriend admitted to me hed been trying to show them off earlier and must have set their log hide on the tip of one of the geckos tails, and he ripped it off trying to run away... Im so mad I can hardly think straight, but that doesent change anything aside from me buying a lock for the terrarium doors tomorrow..
So I was wondering what I should do for him, about 1/2 if not a little more of his tail is gone. Their young so their tails havent stored up much fat yet, ad Im worried about how it could effect him. Hes still acting normal, but it looks like its got to hurt. Is there anything I can do for him?
And what would be a better hide for them then the logs? I have them filled with moss and they seem to love them, but now I dont feel like there safe. I have them in a 20 gal with a heat pad on most of one side, the two log hides, a shallow water bowl, and paper towel for substrate.
Any advice is welcome, thanks :)

:main_laugh: Haha nice! Stupid boyfriend!!!

Two thoughts, 1 styrofoam/plastic throw away bowls turned upside down with a small archway cut along the lip of the bowl for access. Or plastic tupperware can be cut to make a moist hide. You can cut the whole just about anywhere and then put something in it that you can moisten and will stay moist for a while aka papertowel, coco fiber, moss, etc.

I believe this is sound advice on tail loss: http://www.leopardgeckowiki.com/index.php?title=Tail_Loss
If you set up a new enclosure you can always do a 10 gallon with a heat pad. Might be a good idea to have a spare in case of fighting... one ends up being a male... or if ever separation is needed.

Just make sure they have paper towels so nothing can stick to the tail while its healing and that the enclosure is always cleaned to prevent infection. If you like you can bath his tail in a tiny bit of luke warm salty water to make sure there's nothing on it but you should be okay.
Youll be surprised how fast the tail grows back. now that he/she dosnt have a tail to store fat for a while just make sure he/she is eating well.

good luck and welcome :)
