Hey everyone, I did some research on leopard geckos and decided that I am going to get 2. I have a 24x18x12 Med/Low exo-terra case( I'm sure that is enough space for 2.). I also have hide aways and water/food dishes. I plan on getting slate tile for the substrate. I hear everyone say that 2 males housed together will fight, but i was wondering if they will fight if they are raised from babies? Also is there is a way to sex a baby Leopard gecko? thanks for any advice.:)

The 18x18x12 is the small/low exoterra. It's gonna be cramped for two leos, and I personally wouldn't recommend it. I have the 24x18x12 (medium/low), and you'd be surprised how fast it fills when you put hides and the essentials in the cage. Yes, two males will fight regardless of being raised together. Once they reach sexual maturity, they will fight one another for the right to breed. As far as sexing a hatchling or juvenile, I don't know if there's any way for an inexperienced keeper to tell. At best, your breeder should have a good idea, as incubating them at specific temperatures produces mostly a specific sex... but it's not a guarantee.

i purchased my leopard gecko from the local petstore (Pet co) and they werent able to tell me the sex of my leo. They said that the leo was too young. I hear a lot on here about not buying from pet co. I am still within my 14 days, i am debating on returning my leo and getting from a breeder in a specific sex. what do you guys suggest?

If you want a guarantee that you're getting a certain sex, buy from a breeder. If you're dead set on having two leos, buy from a breeder. I only have one leo right now. If I see another at a reptile show, I might get a second.

If you decide to house two leos together just make sure you quarantine them in separate enclosures for at least 90 days to make sure both animals are healthy (eating and pooping normally) before you house them together. Also have the the supplies available to permanently house them separately if something should happen in the future (fighting, illness, etc..)

Never house two males together. If you purchase two males as hatchlings they may get along fine for a while until they start to mature. Once that happens they will fight which can result in serious injuries and even death.

If you buy geckos from a pet store, unless you happen to get an experienced keeper they probably will not be able to properly sex the hatchlings. Your best bet would be to purchase from an experienced breeder. Most of the time breeders can tell you the sex of there leopard geckos around the 12 - 15 gram range.

Lastly, If these are your first geckos I would recommend purchasing animals that are at least 3 months old or 15+ grams. This way they are well started and there is less of a chance you will run into some of the problems new keepers can have when trying to care for small hatchlings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, I hope pet co well take them back, do I can get a female super tangerine with a carrot tail from a local breeder I found I'm my area. Also, I noticed that the Leo's I have now are very hand shy and reuse to let me hold them, are Leo's from a good breeder be less hand shy and more friendly to bring handled?
