I've been lurking around for a couple of weeks now learning quite a bit about setting up for a new gecko.

I am still confused about how everyone has their temps lowered at nite. Are heaters on timers? Or are you actually using lights with the UTH to bring temps up during the day and then when they are shut off the temps go down?

I am going to go ahead and set up with slate with reptile carpet under it I think.

Thanks for the help! I really enjoy reading here.

Well what I dont use a UTH, personally i care about my geckos stomach even if it has a thermostat. I used 2 25 W moonglo lights 24/7 keeps temperature steady. Im also using repticarpet. Its cool, easy to keep things in order.

I don't think many of us drop temps at night, but there are thermostats available with that function built in.

Yeah my temp is the same throughout the day, His hide in insulated so it keeps some coolness inside there so I dont need all that extra cold and warm side stuff

Yeah it honestly can, It wont do any harm as long as they have a hide to cooldown in and there heat they will be fine

If the abient air temp chages too munch then it changes a bit and gos back right when you have a thermostat. and no lights for leos its bad for them.

I have slate and a UTH on a rheostat. The temp ranges between 92 and 98 thru the day & night depending on what the house temp is. I don't purposely drop temps unless it's too hot. We don't have a light for the tank, the leo gets his light cycle from the room light & windows.

You'll find alot of differences.

I am going to set up lighting on a timer for sure. I typically keep the shades closed in the room I am planning to keep the gecko in because it gets some pretty serious sun and makes my house into a furnace!
