Hi, Im starting to breed leopard gecko next year most likely and was wondering if I really need to buy a incubator thing... I was just thinking of leaving them in my closet and maintain a temp of 80-85 about

Oh, is there any incubator that wont cost over 100$?

The hovabator is probably the cheapest commercial incubator. You can find them online or at "tractor supply" type stores (that's where we got ours and saved a few dollars that way too (cheaper price and no shipping charges).

Hovabator

You DO NOT want the "Turbo Fan" model. You NEED the "thermal air flow" model, it should be like $55. Most people will tell you get a different thermostat. The one that comes with the incubator is not as good as some others available.

Oh so the thermostat is not good? What should I replace it with? I've been told that I can put a water bottle or so in the hovabator to "Absorb" some of the heat if it gets too hot or sumthing

From when I am sensing (not try to be rude), you don't know much about breeding. Please continue reading and know all you can.

Don't use a water bottle to disperse heat. This is why you would want to get a better t-stat. The one that comes with the hovabator will work, but there are better ones available. You don't want temperature fluctuations, you want a steady temp. Temp fluctuations can cause birth defects. If you were to invest money into a better incubator and t-stat you wouldn't have to worry as much about temp fluctuations.

Well expect to pay over $100 for your incubator set-up...Not to be rude but if you dont want to spend $100 on your incubator how can you expect to feed, house, heat all your baby geckos which will cost you alot more then $100 dollars. But please read lots of articles and talk to as many breeders as you can since this is a big responsibility.

I agree with Nigel. The best thing I ever did before I started breeding was to invest in The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos. It was the best thing I could have ever done. It laid a good foundation of knowledge.
