So I have been reading around about enclosures and such and i am hoping to get a leopard gecko today at an expo. Anyways, i have read that sand is good, but sand is bad, i don't know whether i should or should t, chances are some replies will say to use it and other will say otherwise. Also I found this blanket heater in my house and i was wondering if i could use it for my enclosure, the enclosure will be a ten gallon, which is currently housing a pacman frog. I will sell the pacman frog at the expo and get a leopard gecko. As for slate tile, what sized will fit a ten gallon? Also, what is better slat tile or vinyl? For heating in the day i will use a 60 watt daytime bulb and at night i will use the heat pad. I will put the hid hide more in the right side, but not all the way so it is about 90 degrees. The highest temp i am hoping will be about 95??? I'm not sure right now but ruts what i think it should be. I don't know about the night time temp so yeah.

In a Nutshell:

-Yes, sand is bad. It can cause impaction. I suggest paper towels or tile instead
-I'd invest in a heat mat from the petstore or amazon. They are made specifically for reptiles and adhere right to the bottom of your tank.
-The dimensions of a 10g tank are 20x11x12 (inches) so slate that is 20x11, or pieces of slate that make up that area
-Leo's don't need heating lamps unless the ambient temp is below 65F. The heating pad should be turned on all the time. 24-hours a day. Leos need belly heat to properly digest. A proper sized heat mat will be sufficient.
-The hot-spot above the heat mat should be around 90F

-Your gecko doesn't look albino since it has black on it. Did you get it from a breeder?

I did get it from a breeder at an animal expo. The label was Rainwater something something albino. He was 25 dollars which is 10 dollars cheaper than ++++++++. I have him set up in a very large tank. Tomorrow I am going to ++++++++ to get more supplies and such, Right now he is in a very plain set up. He is in one I believe is a 30 gallon high or 20 long. I got it at the expo for 25 bucks. It is exactly 2 feet long and about 12 and a half feet wide. When should I start handling him and when should I start feeding? I read that you should wait about 2 days before feeding. The heat mat is fine because there is a thermostat on it already which I can raise or lower the temps. Winter is on the way so I am using a regular florescent bulb as a second heat source and light source. On the way home, he puked out a meal worm. I don't really know why, but it happened. Right now he has paper towels as substrate, a log hide on the cool side, and a humid plastic hide on the hot. In between there is a fake plant. In the front there are two water bottle caps holding calcium and d3 and water.

Edit: He goes into his hide, then comes out and sleeps next to it, is it too hot in there?
Also the breeder gave me some calcium d3 and vionate, what do I do with the vionate?
Also, how will i go about taming the little guy, i tried to pick him up but he ran away. Should i wait a few days?, Thanks
