Hi All,

I am new here and recently decided to get a leo geckos as my pets. I do not have any experience with such animals, anyhow I hope we will get together :main_cool3:

First of all I would start with housing, I thought to buy a terrarium with dimensions l=90cm x w=40cm x h=40cm. I plan to buy 2 female geckos and house them together in this terrarium. What do you think, is keeping two females together entire life in same habitat smart and doable choice, and also would this size of terrarium provide comfy space for them? (I've read keeping male and female all the time is not such smart option, especially due to periodical sexual encounters, I do not need babies hehe).

Ok, so these are my first questions:

1. Is it fine to house two females in same terrarium?
2. Will they have enough space in this size terrarium?

If you think I should change something, feel free to say.

Thanks.

While it's usually safer to house them individually, if you keep a close eye on them you can house multiple females together. As long as they're around the same size, and one is not hogging all the food, they generally don't show aggression towards each other. I'll note that while I have had females before, they were kept in different enclosures (as one was upstairs and one was in my room in the basement), but I'll likely be trying my hand at housing a pair of females in a larger tank.

If nothing else, you'd need to be 100% sure both geckos were female before trying to house them together.

Well my plan is to buy goth females from same birth, so they shall be same ages, and also to do a ceck and ensure they really are females before buying.

what about terrarium dimension, will it be enough comfortable for these ladies?:)

It 'should' be large enough for a pair of females, as long as you have plenty of room for multiple hides. The tank I'll be using for mine is about the same, if not a little deeper (taller if I tip it on the side, it'll measure 91cm Long by 40cm wide by 45cm high), and to make sure I have enough hides in mine I'll be adding a shelf/second level inside the tank.

two levels is definitely a good idea if you are housing two together. I'm from the stupid States so I'm terrible with the metric system haha but from the math I'm attempting to do it sounds like a 20L? In which case that'd be big enough. I have 3 in one 20L with 3 different levels and it works great. (Although more times than not I find all three crammed inside the smallest hide in the whole viv... -__-)

Hehe, I am not into US metrics anyhow I think we are talking about same sizes and I also believe this tank size will be enough for them. Also, I was thinking about housing even 3 females, but eventually I will stick to 2 pieces. Ok, so I am about firstly to fully prepare terrarium, I hope so this will be finished in abouth a month after which I can buy geckos and welcome them :D

One more thing, as I plan to house 2 geckos, should I have double hides and double thermal pads (for each gecko)? I was wondering what If I had one thermal pad with one hide on it, and one gecko goes inside, what would another do this way (in case she also wants to go on thermal pad)? :D

Yesterday, I ordered production of terrarium with the equipment, it is expected to take over it by the end of this week or beginning of next week. Upon pick up I will also select exact geckos. Will post some images once they arrive home.

Last friday I got my geckos with housing. Here are some pics: https://www.facebook.com/mares021/media_set?set=a.1404277739802030.1073741832.100006594510898&type=3

Left corner is warm hide (under terrarium heater), and geckos spend most time inside this hide. On the right corner there is a humid spot which I spray once in a day or two, and it keeps moist, but I have not noticed geckos being there. I guess they still have to accommodate. Should I also have humid hide in right corner, of it is fine to be "open" area but still moisturized? Comments are welcome.
