I'm talking hubby into letting me get a Leopard Gecko. I've raised dragons a long time ago but we never got into the Gecko's. Back in the day they were hard to find. Now there are so many that it's going to be tough to choose just one.

My question...can you get more than one at a time and keep in the same cage like a couple of girls or do they like their own space.

You can get 2 or 3 females in the same tank, but it needs to be at least a 20 long and have plenty of hides. (At least 4.) As they grow into full size adults (if you get 3) though I would recommend getting a 40 or something larger.

Also, males can only be housed by themselves.

I figured the males needed to be by themselves. Good to know about the cages. I wouldn't have figured they needed such a big cage. I guess I'm used to seeing just baby's at the shows. I better just stick with a couple. I don't think I want a 40 gallon in my tiny living room downstairs.

Thanks for the tips!

If you do get a few, be sure to keep an eye on them that one doesn't bully the other and eat all the food or stress them out. In general, geckos are solitary by nature and don't typically "enjoy" or seek companionship...more like females will tolerate it. I originally wanted to keep two females together, but ended up deciding against it from so many comments showing one gecko malnourished with a skinny tail "for no reason" just to have it grow back to a healthy weight upon being separated and in its own tank. It just sounded like more of a chore to me (though I know it can be just fine). Do choose them carefully, and make sure they are the same size to help prevent any domineering behavior. Good luck!
