I've lived in NH most of my life and when I was little our neighborhood was chock full of nifty little critters I loved to play with. Salamanders (black with a red stripe down their back) use to be everywhere and I'd ride my bike and move baby northern water snakes out of the road. We moved more towards the coast and other than a few frogs I've not seen any herps or amphibians.

I know a few places to go herping in Portsmouth, however even then you're looking at a ton of Salamanders, and really not much else, the occasional Garter, or ringneck.

However, in saying that there are two kinds of salamanders, that you can easily find one being Jeffersons, or blue spotted possibly a intergrade (I believe this means, naturally occuring hybrid) and some reddish one (it's been years, since I have been out.)
