The crickets won't eat the gecko, it's a wives tail, but they will irritate him at the worst. They might bite, but they certainly won't eat him up. I wouldn't offer him crickets now if he's new to them, and he's still new though, sometimes new geckos can take up to a week to eat ANYTHING once they come home for the first time. If he's used to eating something else, feed him what he's used to, if he usually eat crickets, give him a few and remove anything he doesn't eat.

that's the problem my local pet store said the feed him crikets and they gave me the same size he was feed and yester day i dropped two in and he ate them but not the third so i took it out. but i put some mealworms in a little deli cup lid and the next moring only two were left im really worried also what does wives mean ??? and could they permanily damage the gecko but if i put the patatoe in there then they would go for that???

A wives tail, it's a saying, like a myth, something that people say, but it isn't true.

I actually never leave crickets or any food items in with my animals.

Most of the time I just take their hides out of their house, throw some crickets or meal worms in, whatever they don't eat, I take out.

Put a slice of carrot or yam or potato and the crickets will find it. They will probably congregate in one area rather then running around the tank.

Put mealworms in a deli cup and put them in like a bin or something and see if the meal worms can crawl out of the deli cup. After like an hour if they are all still in the cup then the cup is safe to use.

Yep, you do not want to leave crickets in there overnight.
And yes, crickets do bite, and they can stress your gecko to the point
where he will no longer want to eat them.

Just put a few in his tank at a time, when he eats those, you can put
in a few more. If he does not eat them in about 15 minutes or so, take
them out. If the crickets are too fast, or they run and hide, you can
remove their back legs.

In time, you will learn to tell when he is hungry or not.

About the cricket thing. If they do get the chance to bite your gecko its quite stressful. I've seen a gecko that had died over night and crickets has eaten the eye balls, and some parts of the stomach.

Yeah, crickets can seriously stress the leo. I've seen a baby bearded dragon with GIANT craters in his back do to crickets left in the enclosure.
You should try roaches :D Really though, they can't bite your gecko, and will just scurry around. You can do the potato thing for them to keep them in one area for your gecko as well.

I rarely have any left in with Herman that are not hiding for their lives. He eats them all gone. :main_yes: I will usually only feed him five a day, depending on the size of the cricket. He's almost six months old.

good thing shes eating mealworms
i wouldnt leave loads of crickets in over night but you should leave a couple in there over night because thats when the gecko hunts. thats what i do for my gecko and he's fine, but i would leave a little bit of carrot or something in there aswel so the crickets have something to nibble on.:D

I leave a nugget of dog food in all my gecko tubs. The crickets will eat the dog food before they try to eat the gecko. If the geckos get pissed at the crickets the geckos just go up on top of the moist hide and watch the crickets from there...:main_robin:
I've never seen cricket bites on my geckos and I always leave the crickets in the tub until the next feeding. I then remove and dispose of the uneaten crickets as you don't know if the crickets have ingested any fecal matter. Moving one of these crickets into another enclosure is just asking for trouble.
