I've just read about them in brightalbino.com, but I had never heard of them before. I'd like to know which is the difference between them and other strains of tangerines.

David Nieves was one of the first to develop the tangerine leopard gecko, and they had a very distinctive look about them. Back in those days you could just look at a gecko and tell who's lines they came from... like the classic look of a Ray Hine SHCT, or today's Mack snow. Over the years it is growing more and more difficult to identify these characteristics.

I think Kelli or Robin may have a photo of a pure Nieves line gecko... ?

Isn't it great having people like Marcia here?! I remember visiting her site in 1999 when I first got into Leos and she's still representing strong. Cheers to all the original gangstar gecko breeders who stuck it out over the years! Without you guys A LOT of information would be lost.

This is the photo shown as a Nieves tangerine in brightalbino.com (I hope the owner doesn't get angry for showing it here): http://www.brightalbino.com/images/collection/otherleos/Rosa.jpg

Is this the looks of a pure Nieves tangerine? It sure looks different: the spots are really big and there are very few, the marks in the head are 'boldish' and it has different shades of orange and yellow color in the body. Are these the things what difference a Nieves tangerine from other tangerines or there are more things?

I agree with Michael, Marcia's information is always appreciated!

I think Marcia actually first imported leopard geckos - when she and her husband Noah stepped off the ark....

I certainly don't mind you posting that photo, Sandra. I received that gecko from Kelli about a year ago. I crossed her to a redstripe male and hatched some interesting looking offspring. Mainly colorful jungles, but a few that had the classic Nieves tang look.

I remember some photos of "Nieves tangerines" in one of the earlier leopard gecko manuals. I was always impressed with those geckos. It's my understanding that David Nieves line bred his tangerines for several different, and striking, looks...including "hypo" (but without the Hine's genes). I'm more interested in crossing "pure" Nieves to eachother this season to see what may be hidden in that bloodline. A few other breeders have already done this and may be more knowledgeable as to their potential.

Yes it is, I agree totally, it is nice to hear from the ones who have been through it all and are willing to post what they learned from each experience. Thanks again to all of you!
