Not eating a lot...

As you guys know, I inherited a female leo not too long ago. I'm not sure about the age. Anyway, she will eat crickets like it's going out of style (10-15 at a time). I've heard that mealies are better for leos. My question is that she only eats 2-3 at a day (I'm feeding super mealies). She looks healthy (not skinny) and her tail is plump but not as plump as some of the leos on this forum. Is this OK or should I go back to crickets (I'd rather not because they stink).

Here is a pic I took of her when I got her. She still looks the same now. Thanks for the help. I know, get rid of the sand.:main_thumbsup:

Do you mean superworms? Or Giant mealworms? If the latter, I'd quit feeding them ASAP, as these mealworms are given steroids and hormones to live up to their "giant" name. Those things aren't too good for the gecko. Stick to regular-sized mealworms if you're going to feed them.

Some geckos prefer one food source to another, and your gecko may just prefer crickets in general. Crickets are a great food source and packed with nutrition if gutloaded properly, but they are in my opinion less convenient than mealworms. I personally feed primarily mealworms. If your gecko seems to love crickets, though, I don't see why you couldn't keep giving her those, but if you want to introduce her to mealworms, you could gradually begin offering some over time to see if she'll switch over to them.

Crickets are actually better for them, just more of a pain so many people use mealworms and superworms instead. I'd say feed her crickets if you don't mind them. Roaches are great too, and more nutritious than both.
