Not eating (enough)

I have a gecko that I got fairly young, maybe at about four months old. She got up to about 39g and just stays there. She'll eat but only enough so she doesn't loose weight and she really only eats crickets. I've tried every other food imaginable.

Anyway I thought maybe she couldn't catch the crickets and thats why she didn't eat as many so I tried one last time to switch her over to mealworms. I took away all other food and only gave mealworms for about a month. Still she only eats enough to keep her weight in place.

Is she sick? Could there be a health concern? She's about 13 months old and not cracking the 40g mark.

She might just be a small gecko. I have one that won't pass the 24-26 gram marker. We adopted her knowing that she would always live in her own tank and never be bred due to her size and she's been a great little addition to our family. I would probably take a fecal in just to check for any parasites or other underlying problem (if you haven't done that already), but otherwise if she isn't loosing weight, she's probably just meant to be a "good thing in a small package" :main_thumbsup:

I agree with Kelly, it is probably just a small gecko, but take a fecal in to the vet to be sure. Wow Kelly!!!! that is a small leo you got there. How long is she?

She may be ovulating. It is not that uncommon for females to stop eating when they ovulate, and can be problematic if they are not of good breeding weight. I suggest you hold the gecko and gently bend her backwards over your finger creating tension on her abdomen. If you see a pink circle a little larger than the size of a pencil eraser in the upper right and lower left side of her belly, she is ovulating.

She's basically the size of a juvie - never gained weight or grew any longer. I adopted her off this site from Paul Sage. She's a sweet gal, just tiny. I've attached a picture to show how purrrrty "Clementine" is ...

(Oh and sorry to hijack the thread.)
