OK...I have an approximately 3 year old Stripe female who has not been eating. She has lost about 13 grams in the past 5-6 weeks. She has been to the vet a few times. The vet has taken X-rays on 2 occassions, ruling out both egg binding and a blockage/impaction. She has had 2 vitamin B injections in her tail (which is getting quite skinny). We really can't figure out anything that's wrong with her, aside from possibly just becoming anorexic from not eating? Anyone else ever have this problem? She is also CONSTANTLY shedding and having a lot of problems with that. We are soaking her and trying to help her work most of it off. The vet also suggested Shed Aid, which seems to help a little, also.

The vet has recommended I start using Marcia's slurry (thanks, Marcia! :)), and she is eating about 1-2cc a day of this. I am not force feeding her, but putting a little drop on the end of her nose to get her started and then she licks it off of the end of the syringe.

Oh, and her fecal was also negative.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I have had this happen twice now, the first gecko we were able to turn around, and she is doing great! The other, not so much. The slurry works great. I would suggest feeding at least twice a day.

Thanks for your thoughts! It's nice to know that some make it out of this....will keep using the slurry. The vet and I are figuring that any food going into her little body is good right now!

Well, I am very sad to report that Gremlin died in my hands 2 nights ago. She had been to the vet at least once a week the past few weeks and we just couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. The vet is going to be performing a necropsy on her to see if she can find anything.

I just feel so horrible, though I don't feel there's anything else that I could have done. Hopefully she is eating well and happy and healthy in gecko heaven.

Thank you, all, for the kind words. It's definitely been a rough week, but at least the poor little girl is in a better place.

I am sorry for your loss Mari. I am curently trying to nurse my wife's friend leopard gecko back. It has a super skinny tail and not eating. I am about too make Marcia's slurry and see if that will work. I have had if for 2 days now. I have put wax worms, meal worms and phoenix worms in its food dish and it hasn't ate anything yet. And no sand impaction either and I have soaked it in warm water to.

Oh no.... I am so sorry to hear that your gecko died! What a tragic thing to happen. Somtimes geckos get bacterial infections that do not show up on routine fecal examinations. A sample of the stool needs to be grown in a lab to test for susceptible bacteria. I hope you find our what happend with a necropsy.

Constant frequent shedding can be a sign of vitamin overdose. . . although I've seen bad sheds from lack of vits. too.
