How long do they go without eating, and should I breed mine to a male if she won't eat. Other then the not eating part she is in overall great health and does not seem to be getting any thinner.

Do you already have your female in with a male? If not, then you could if you want to (just make sure the pair is similar in weight and size). Only do this though if you are prepared to care for eggs and set up tanks for babies. I wish you good luck if you do decide to mate them.:D

Just for reference, there's a picture of eggs/ovulation on my photo gallery in the "Fun Pics folder". (It's actually kinda cool....) :)

I've only had one female really just not want to eat at all while ovulating and not being with a male. She laid 4 clutches without a male, I gave in and put a male with her for a day, she stopped laying, absorbed the last clutch she had and started eating right away. Very very strange girl, it will be interesting to see what she does this season when she's bred.

Felicia, how long did that process take? i.e. develop eggs and then re-absorb them. Every year, my females will stop eating for 2-3 months, and it really is driving me crazy!! I do not want to breed them, so I can only wait it out...:(

Some geckos go weeks, others may go a month or two, while others don't stop at all. Sometimes breeding them will get them to start eating again.

Each female is different, it's hard to say how long they can go. I had one female that had 6 follicles at once and refused to breed. She absorbed them all, on her own. I talked to my vet and showed him her, he just told me to keep an eye on her. Slowly they got smaller and smaller, and I took her in for him to check her tummy, and he said she was doing good. She's got egg nows, but I'm not sure if she let the male near her, I guess I'll just have to wait on those eggs.

Thanks, so I shouldn't be worried about my 4 year old female not eating? She stoped about a 6 weeks ago and has eaten about 6 meal items. 5 crickets and 1 mealworm. 3 crickets and the mealworm were eaten in the past week.
