well, my boyfriend and i went to the reptile show today in wheaton IL, and i guess it was a bad idea because we ended up buying a baby.

some questions:

we have two adults and have never cared for a baby before, i know they need more care and need to be fed more often. we have regular mealworms for her because that's what the breeder said he fed her. will there be any problems getting her to eat crickets after a few months?

also, the tank has paper towel substrate, a pure calcium dish with mealworms in it, a shallow water dish and 3 hides. she isn't sleeping in any of the hides, she's sprawled out in the middle of the tank right now. is that normal for a hatchling? i thought they were more skiddish than the adults.

also, i read in a few places that hatchlings should be kept more moist than adults, and that a lot of people mist, but i don't want to cause any problems. should i mist the tank once a day?

i know she's probably stressed right now, but i'm a little nervous that she won't see the mealworms in her tank. my adults don't and i usually handfeed them..but do they usually know where the food is?

she's only 2-3 weks old, the breeder said. he said he doesn't usually sell them so young but a lot of people were asking this time. i'm very nervous for such a young gecko and i want to make sure everything is right.

one last thing: what morph is she? the man told me she is a super hypo tangerine carrot tail, and she will not have any spots on her when she grows up. but i am terrible and morphs, so i want to have it confirmed. i got her for $55 and wanted to know if you all thought she was a good deal:

2-3 weeks old? Wow, I could understand your concern. I would be rather cautious with one that young, as the youngest I've dealt with is about 2 months old.

Good luck with the new baby!

I just recently bought a baby leopard gecko too. She's housed on paper towels that I never mist and she seems fine. I'm able to drop mealworms in front of her to eat and she sometimes takes them from my tongs, I feed her everyday as much as she'll eat. I do also keep some mealies in her calcium dish and after a week or so she eventually found them and has ate a few out of there. She never sleeps in her hides either, mostly just behind one of them. Can't really help you with the morph, but I can say that she looks sort of how my super hypo tangerine carrot tail gecko looked when he was younger.

Your baby looks almost identical to my baby when I first got her. Mine is a SHTCT. That is a young gecko but things should be fine. No misting is necessary long as u have a humid hide fo course. She will find her other hides as well in due time she may just be stressed. Both of my babies were stressed after I got them for about 2 weeks now eat like champs and love all three of their hides. They switch periodically according to hot, cold and shedding. Just be patient and she will come around. She's very pretty btw :)

Yeah thats going to be a really nice Tangerine Baldy for sure. There will not be any spots on it as it ages and from the color of that head, you will be very happy with the color that will soon follow. If the little guy was already eating for the breeder(which im sure it was) theres really no concern due to it being so young providing its health is good. It sounds like your doing everything correct, Good Luck.
