Ok so, my Snow female was eating vermiculite and I decided to change to paper towels for a little bit til I could get some moss...... she didn't even look fatty as if she was about to lay eggs... this season she had been laying outside of her laying box every time so I thought I had a few days before I should be concerned about her laying a clutch.... today I check the paper towel substrate on her moist hide and what do I find a white little egg.... gosh she never layed there ever! I got it unstuck and put it in some vermiculite and popped it in the incubator....do you think it will survive? it looked really nice and white..

Sounds like you caught it in time. Only time will tell now.

How did the egg shell look? You can usually tell if the egg is viable by the appearance of the egg shell. If the shell is nicely white and hard, it should be good to go!! If the shell is soft, squishy, and discolored, the egg is generally infertile.

Yeah, it should be good. I have a lot of females; dig until they hit the plastic, on the bottom of their hide. Some get stuck pretty well, but I always mange to get them off and they all seem to be fertile so far. I even had a female that was walking around with an egg stuck to her tail. That was fun to get off. Getting the egg, but not the tail, is a hard trick to pull off. But anyways all of those candled good, and I’m sure yours will be fine as well.

Wow that's a crazy story Nicholas! I can only imagine what the egg stuck to the tail was like.

I just came to find that we have two eggs with very good shells that are actually empty inside/infertile and have been incubating for nearly 40 days with no signs of problems.. so my whole theory on "if the shell is good, the eggs are good" just went straight out the window!

I do think yours will survive, though, best of luck to you and keep us updated! :)

hopefully it does.... I actually had one of her eggs mold after 43 days of incubation it was always infertile but still didn't mold or go bad. It's her first season and she has given me absolutely no fertile eggs in her 3 clutches.... sad indeed. The egg looked white very white, and round. As for the texture it felt as if it was made of a really thin plastic for some reason...

The egg shell does sound good. It is pretty normal for a first-year breeder to lay infertile clutches or reabsorb them. I wish you the best!!!!
