It seems when I added the moist moss to the caves I placed the cave down on my little ones tail.:bigcry:
I was just moving stuff around to see if s/he ate any crickets (two or three are gone) and found about a 3rd of her/his tail fell off.
The tail looks clean and not infected or anything. Is there anything special I need to do?
From now on I make him/her come out and away from the caves when I spray the moss with water, so that it wont happen again.
I feel so bad.:(

warm bath's and neosprene on the wound daily also make sure u never leave any crickets in the over an hour as they'll eat at the raw flesh and make short work of it.

Oh what fun chasing down a very small cricket. If I don't leave them in I don't think s/he well eat. It stays in the cave all the time. The two it ate today was when I was not at home. So how do I make sure it gets food?
Also I was told not to handle him/her. I just got it yesterday and it is pretty young.

well u could hand feed or take all the stuff out ure tank and put a few in and watch to make sure she eats all of them i think u could still handle her just dont touch the area becasue there prone to infection also could i ask if its ure first leo because if it isnt then u will no the importance of making sure there's no crickets left in over night

Ill try to hand feed her/him.
But if that does not work I have a small carry container. I am going to clean it and put her/him in it to feed her/him.
I sure hope all this stress does not kill it. It is still young and like I said I just got her/him yesterday.

I don't suggest bathing. Keeping the wound wet is not a good idea. It will heal up fine on it's own but Neosporin or something equivalent (make sure you use the kind WITHOUT pain relief) would be okay to use if you're worried.

I agree with no baths. You do not have to use neosporin either. Just strip the tank down to the bare essentials and use paper towel as the substrate and keep the tank clean.

I have not had a leo lose a tail but I had two crested geckos lose theirs and all I did was place paper towel tubes in their tanks and paper towel as the substrate. To give them water I would spray the tank opposite of the gecko and also provided a bowl of water for them. Their tails healed over very nicely.

I have shelving paper for my substrate do I still need to take that out and use paper towels instead. Do I take out all the caves. S/he only seems to be using the one on the warm side right now anyways.
Should I remove the moss and use paper towels for the moist part?
Can I leave in the calcium?

The paper is fine.

You do not have to remove any of the hides if you do not want to

I would swap the moss for damp paper towels.

You can leave the calcium in the cage

Mainly what you are looking to do is keep any particles out of the sore and keep the area clean.

The only reason I removed my hides and used paper towel tubes was because the hides were cork bark and the geckos were notorious for releaving themselves on the bark. So I used the paper towel tubes because I could just toss'em if the gecko pooped on it.
