If that gecko is 24 years old.. IMO it would not have any carrot tail AT ALL. At most it would have a very very very small ring just around the base of the tail. It is still a relativley new thing. Look at normals from even 6 years ago.. You will see what I am talking about.

David, a friend of mine has a gecko almost IDENTICAL to that one, that is 18 years old. She has the same coloration on her tail and everything. It doesn't so much look like a carrot tail, as it looks like the coloration from the body is down the tail a tiny bit.

I don't believe for a second that the animal in question is 24 years old. I agree with David it is a bit too High Yellow IMO to be 24.

That kind of "carrottail" can be find on wc animals.

Carrot-tail is a line-bred trait, so it has to come from somewhere: selective breeding for more and more % and orange color over many years. That tail isn't more 'carroty' than wild type or wild caught geckos. That girl is basically as wild type-looking as you can get.

I don't doubt she's 24. She looks old with the saggy skin, etc. The record oldest is 27 years, no? At least, that could be proven. Another couple years and we could have a new record. That sheet looks like pretty good proof to me.

I'd have to take the owner on their word and the receipt. Here's my first one hatched in a pic from 1988, a 'high yellow" at the time.

Aww haha I think the saggy skin is cute. Just like how old people get wrinkles. Obviously the owner is doing a good job since its still so healthy looking at its age
