OMG! SOOOOO GROSS!

EWWW! We got in 500 crickets...which actually they sent us well over 2000! We opened the box inside the house expecting them to be contained somehow but they weren't! So there are a few stray crickets in the house now. lol.


I want to ask one thing though...in the box, there were about 5 little black things with hair.....I don't know what they are..I didn't touch them, but we killed them all. I guess they look like a flat black larvae with hair on it. They were moving around. What were those?! They are soooo nasty looking.

The little black things are called Wolly Worms and they are the larvae of a type of Dermestid Beetle. There is nothing wrong with them.. They are actually quite helpful. They eat dead things.. A lot of places actually use them to strip the meat from carcasses. The only bad thing is they eat the cartilidge too. :main_no:

wooly worm is not a beetle but a moth ( isabella tiger moth)

No, they weren't that hairy but I'm sure there are tons of different "wooly worms" out there.

There are alot of different Wolly Worms. This is why common names suck. The kind I am talking about do turn into beetles. Dermestid Beetles to be exact.

Maybe a little.. At the reptile store I used to work at.. When kids were scared of the bugs we were counting.. or the bugs they had to feed their animals.. I ate them. Haha. I kinda miss that. Ah Good Bug Eating Times..

Eww, I used to get those things with my crickets from this one pet store. I asked what they were and they told me they were cricket food.

They put them in with the crickets I guess to cut down on the waste. That's a good idea.

Hahaha.. I only did it with waxworms and crickets.. something about the carion that we fed our wolly worms does nothing for me. Haha.

It does suck for Tamara tho.

Will the geckos eat the wooly worms or is it bad for them?

They are completley healthy for them to eat. Pretty high in calcium too.
