One eye closed?

So ive noticed this with many leos and wonder why they do this. Our leo sits in her hide against a near wall and closes the eye closest to the wall and leaves the other eye open facing the rest of her tank. My logic tells me that she does this as protection in order to keep an eye on her surroundings while resting. She only seems to do it when her head is out of the hide. I have seen this with many leos so i know im not alone in this behavior. Any thoughts?

Sometimes they just like to know what's going on. Remember that these little critters have the equivalent eyesight of a cat, at the very least, so they can see you :D

I suppose there could be multiple reasons for this, but you're right, they do it quite often.

Nocturnal animals have the advantage of avoiding most predators due to reduced visibility at night. In low light, the body can be hard for predators (or prey) to see. Eyes, on the other hand, are one of the most visible parts of an animal, even at night, since any available light collects in and reflects off of the glossy eye surface.

Keeping one eye open reduces the number of angles the gecko is viewable from. Moreover, the gecko may feel it only needs to watch in one direction (i.e. there is a wall/obstruction on the other side, or some other feature that makes the gecko feel safe from that direction).
