Since I found that my gecko is a female, I'm considering getting a second female (I already have a 24x18x12 enclosure (23 gallon)). Is this doable? Enjoyable for the gecko? Keep in mind that my current gecko is very used to sleeping and living with other geckos, as just a month ago, she was living in an enclosure with 6 other geckos who all shared the same hide. Speaking of which, currently, my enclosure encludes 2 hides, a calcium dish, and a water dish. If I were to get another gecko, would I need anything else?

Adding a new gecko can be chancy. If they don't get along you'll need to have a separate enclosure ready and waiting. Once a gecko establishes it's own territory they often will not allow another gecko into it regardless of how they were kept before. You will also want to quarantine any new gecko you get for 30-90 days to make sure it has no parasites or diseases before exposing your existing gecko to it. You'll also want to make sure they are about the same size so one doesn't dominate or eat the other.

When keeping two animals in the same cage it's a good idea to provide choices. You should have at least two warm and two cool hides (four hides in total!) in the tank so they don't have to sleep in the same one if they choose not to. You should also provide them with a moist hide so they can choose to utilize a bit higher humidity area while they are shedding or when they feel they need to.

Good luck with your choices!
