Ok so around where I live I can get crickets at every pet store and the smallest size in mealworms. I dont bother with the mealies because they are so small. I wont to feed the beetles and superworms eventually but I cant get them around here. Is there a place I can order them from? And how do I keep them once I have some? I mean what needs to be in the cage with them so they dont die? thankhs

I don't have experience ordering them but I can answer your other questions.

Keep them on oats with potatoes, or yams(work good for me). Keep it room temp approx. and they will move around and all that.

And the meal worms you see are small, but they grow quite quickly.

There are TONS of online places to order anything from hornworms to roaches, and everything in between! What works best is to find a place as local to you as possible, thus making the shipping time as short as possible. Search around, and you will find better deals with others.

I keep my supers with oats and carrots. Simple as that!

I agree with you that the mini mealies are absolutely pointless!

ok so basically just put some oats a couple of carrots in with them and let them go? Would a small Rubbermaid container work? What about water? Is there enough moisture in the carrots for the supers?

thats pretty much the jist of it... a rubbermaid container will work just fine, as long as its deep enough they cant get out... if you choose to cover it, make sure you have lots of ventilation... and thats about it... and carrots supply all the moisture they will need... :main_yes: :main_thumbsup:

Yep, they just eat the carrots for moisture. The only thing I don't like about Supers is that they are cannibalistic no matter how much room, food, and moisture they have lol.

ok well I the one store around my house that carries mealies keeps them in a refrigerator. they are on oats. If they need room temp wouldnt they die from the cold? If so I will just order them online. thanks

Well they fridge slows them down big time so they won't eat and grow. I believe the temperature can't be below 40*F or they'll start to die off.

Well superworms and mealworms are completely different. Superworms will die if kept in the fridge. Mealworms, like Liz said, can be "slowed down" by placing them in the fridge. This basically makes them last longer before turning into pupae. I keep giants in the fridge, but am sure to take them out once in awhile to let them eat (they are dormant in the fridge and will not eat anything).

ok so I could get the mealies even though they are small and get them to eat when they warm up. I think Ill just do that then and get them to grow before I start feeding them. thanks again for the help
