I know this should probably be in the health section, but it's really a question as to everyone's opinion on the situation.
From prior posts I've been keeping tabs on how Loki & Odin have been doing the past few months. Stopped eatting, dropped alot of weight, been on 2 different antibiotics for possible bacterial infection... the whole nine yards.
I've been at war with myself over all this, and know fully well had I did things differently, these two would not be sick now.
Recently, after Odin's last shed sometime near the end of last week he started opening his eyes again. It's been a long time since we've even been able to see his eyes since he's kept them shut. The shed was horrible, and I'm STILL picking stuck on shed off. I also spoke to the vet again (I'm sure the guy is probably tired of hearing from me at this point.) And the only advice he could offer was the "they need to have the will to live" bit again. When Odin was healthy when I last weighed him he was at 18 grams and growing. I weighed him tonight after meds and slurry and he's down to 9. All that weight gone in the matter of 3 months. Whenever I take him out, he's usually pretty lively, and has adopted Dante's habit of taking flying leaps out of my hands. Whenever I put him back into his critter keeper (as this is where he's been staying since he was hastily taken out of the 29 gallon. And yes, it does have a heat pad on the side.) he runs around like a nut dragging his belly around on the papertowel for a few minutes before retreating to his moist hide.
He isn't nearly as bad as Dante was near the end, but I still don't know what to do. The vet suggested (in an attempt to apease me I suppose) a third week of .02 cc of Baytril daily. Should I finish out the week and give him and Loki a week or two? Or just make the dreaded call. I really don't know. I would hope that he isn't in too much pain, but the lack of eatting on his own has really taken a toll on him.
Loki on the other hand hasn't dropped as much weight, but still won't eat on her own. I've upped her temps during the day and still nothing.
At this point I've lost count of how many times they've been to the vet.
Anyone's opinion on the matter and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, regardless of what it is.
