I think Orchid actually prefers feeding from a dish rather than hunting! I recently (a month or so) stopped feeding her from a dish because the dish I was using was letting larger worms out (just a hermit crap dish with a ramp from Pet Co). She started eating considerably less, but I chocked it up to her not only being extremely lazy (once she stopped growing, crickets were no longer worth the effort LOL) but it also starting to cool and work into winter. She kept her weight on, so I never worried too much, as she clearly was eating enough to sustain herself.
The other day, I bought a shallow stainless cat dish at goodwill, and decided to give it a try because I didn't feel like dangling my arm in the tank and trying to get her to eat for 15 or 20 minutes (she is one stubborn pain in the butt, let me tell you!), and as soon as realized that new slippery thing in the middle of the tank was full of food, she climbed right in and started chowing down! I may even refill the dish at this point lol So I think it's safe to say she's even more lazy than I thought
Does anyone else have a gecko that just hates hunting? She used to love it, launching litterally half way across the tank for a cricket! But now that she's grown, she just won't do it. Movement attracts her attention, but doesn't spark any hunting instincts. Not that I really care-- feeding from a dish is much easier, but watching them hunt is half the fun of owning them!
Also, she was actively lapping up the Repashy in her dish. I've not seen her do this, but I've seen Raven do it once a few months ago. Raven gets dish fed more often because that crazy little thing is a bottomless pit and I could sit there all night letting her hunt worms! For the last week and half or so, I've been feeding crickets, which I don't dust, simply because it's a bit of a trick, and I don't want criskets getting out OR jumping on me. I do give them fresh veggies, though, and if I keep them long enough, I put some Repashy on their veggies. Do you think she was just missing it? I've been intermittently feeding dusted supers to her as well, so its not like she's been completely without. I've got calcium with D3 I could give her a little dish of if need be, or I could buy some without D3 later in the week. Just curious
And here's the little cutie going to town in her new dish
