I get home Friday and am told that the adult rack (Animal Plastic Rack with back heat) is only reading 77 degrees. I figure out quickly that the heat cable is shot and luckily, I have a heat fan to use until I can disassemble the rack and replace the cable. I had a cable for another rack which was not being used, so I decide to install it on Sat morning. I proceed with this and stack the tubs with the adults on top of each other with boards in between. I hear a noise from the corner of the room. I go over to see two of my males (obviously escape artists who seized the opportunity) fighting. I pick them up while they have death grips on each other and one of them decides to give me a bite for good measure. After a trip to the sink and getting some cold water on them I was able to break them up. One male only has a mere flesh wound on the back. The other has a few nasty bites (under front right leg in the fatty area, on the same leg itself, small head bites, and a damaged lower lip). My right middle finger bled profusely for a few minutes, but I feel worse for the one male who now must recover for a while. I used Neosporin on their wounds, but I feel terrible that I didn't hear them escape when I was right next to their tubs.

I use a reptile wound healer I got from my vet thats all natural in case they decide to lick it. They also sell some at some of the chains that has tea tree oil and aloe vera that may be better choice than neosporin. This stuff works well and I've seen wounds heal within a day of using it..

Thats terrible though, especially that that it drew blood.. I've had a clamp on a finger before but no blood. Mine usually just put enough pressure for it to throb for a few minutes..

I've been bitten by adult Leos 3 times (all by males). Every time involved them being frightened somehow and biting me as a reaction. Every time hurt enough to make me shout for a second or two and every time I bled. I guess it's my bad luck that the big males are always the ones latching on...lol

Ouch, on all counts. I hope the leos heal up nicely (I'm sure you will too). Hopefully you were able to get your heating back in order after playing doc.

Talk about a bad day. Hope your leos heal fast. I have been bitten by big males too. Did not hurt, but bled a lot. Hope you have your rack up and running!

Rack has been running on a heat cable I put in and I have ordered a new heat cable from AP to replace the one that got toasted. Looks like I will have to disassemble the rack again to replace the temporary one I put in. I also ordered a night drop timer cable for my Helix so I can drop temps slightly at night to conserve electricity. My cuts are still sore from the bite. He tore me up :)

I'm glad you found them early enough, otherwise it could be worse. I hope your males and your finger will get well soon.
