Quigley is my brother's bearded dragon. I know very little about bearded dragons, but last weekend my brother got his first. I'm asking this on his behalf, he has read several books and caresheets, talked to the pet store (which I realize is not the best source for info, however. . .) he is concerned because he works and goes to school full time and there are two days a week that he is literally out of the house for 15 hours. He turns on the basking light and heat light in the morning when he leaves at 8:30 but isnt able to return home till midnight to turn them off. He said all the info he has read suggests only 12 hours of basking light daily. Is it harmful to the dragon to give him 15 hours of basking light two days a week? Thanks for all advice :)

Has your brother ever heard of a light timer... very useful piece of equipment in this kind of situation. My 14 yr old son has a couple of lights on his python's tank that control secondary heat sources and lighting. Very wise investment to provide a consistant cycle for your brother's dragon, and relatively inexpensive (under $10.00). It's a simple investment that can save his dragon tons of stress from improper lighting cycles.

You pretty much set it and walk away. You'll have to re-adjust for daylight savings time if you're in an area affected by that, and also if you have a power outage, but overall VERY reliable. Here's a google image link to show you the many different styles avilable:

I use timmers on all my basking lights and UVB lights for my Beadies and collared lizards. Like Kermit said there cheap like $10 for the non digital ones you cant go wrong. Very rarely Ive had the analog ones fail once or twice over 10+yrs.

A light timer is definitely the way to go. Actually the picture is the EXACT one that I use :)
