It has to ovulate first. Same as humans.

Leopard geckos CAN store sperm though, and will fertilize themselves, meaning they do not need to be bred 5 times to produce a season's clutches.

I need to find a way to tell when females are ovulating. Kiya doesnt like to be held into light so I can see her tummy

Jess, get a piece of glass, or a very clear plastic container and put her in/on it. Hold it up above your head, and look at her belly...you should be able to see the pink areas
