Not saying holding by it's tail is 100% safe, but to everyone saying "OMG! holding by the tail" It's not going to drop it's tail unless you're physically pulling it's tail when the gecko is trying to run the opposite way or under severe stress.

I've have yet to have a leopard gecko drop their tail to holding it up to check and see if they're ovulating.

Well, idk if I'm that freaked out by it lol. But you wouldnt hold a grenade by the pin? Just saying there's a chance it could indeed freak out and fall off. Especially holding them in the air

Ty for for the insight guys. I only do this with this one female. She wont let me flip her over so this is the only way and trust me I'm cautious! Thanks for the concerns!

You don't have to flip her over, just stand her up straight and stand in front of a mirror. If holding by the tail, best do as what others suggested, allow her front feet to touch the ground.

I set her on a sheet of glass and look up through it for mine since some don't let me do it either :)
