Ovulation help

Does ovulating have to do with mating? I've been posting various threads on my female leopard gecko not eating and I've got responses saying she's ovulating. My female has never mated with a male. Can they still ovulate without mating??

Female Humans ovulate without even having sex. It's just a part of our cycle and I assume the same from Leos? Someone correct me if I'm wrong here!
