We had a female ovulate and we didn't breed her and she stopped a week later. But we have another female that we haven't bred and she's been ovulating for a month now. I don't know if there's an average time. My guess would be that they will ovulate the entire season if they're normal.

Do you think that you miss clutches by waiting ie if you breed them two months after they started and get 4 clutches you could've gotten 8 if she were bred when she first started going?

Quite possibly, but I don't have experience to back that up or refute it. However, those potential eggs are lost forever in terms of overall ability to breed. I'd have bred my girl to another male if I did not have to be concerned about spermatozoa retention, which would then interfere with the project she's meant for.

Yes James, I think you will miss clutches bc I believe females have an ending date to their ovulation. Not how many clutches they lay but the time of year dictates when they are through laying. I would much rather breed a female when she is first ovulating. That way she can lay her eggs and then get some food in her. If you wait a fe months, she's will have lost some weight by then that could have been used for laying a clutch.

Luckily for me none of the females that I am referring to our currently ovulating. But I don't have the male that I want to pair them with yet either. I'm hoping they hold off until I do.
