From what I've found it is the same ingredients in all forms of panacur, just some more diluted than others. With proper calculation of weight/weight could this work as a cheaper option? It can be bought locally here for $4 for 1mg, so if mixing and weighing for 0.125ml for a 25g gecko, should be the same outcome. Seems like a much cheaper treatment to pinworms than $16 a dose and 3 doses...

Correct me if i am wrong but this seems at least hypothetically to me that it would work.

I guess it could work if you knew the strength/dilution that the vet uses and then calculate the gecko weight.

Why are you asking? Please don't tell me you are planning to treat your gecko yourself:worried:

It is ordered slightly different depending on how severe the load is. Some experienced people do it as prevention. However, when a reptile is symptomatic it can be due to bacterial infection or other parasites which Panacur will not treat.

You know the gecko this is relating to.

Fecals showed a large pinworm infestation. The vet said they could refer me to another vet with more reptile experience to administer the doses (at $16-22 each dose, bi weekly until clear fecals) or I could pick up Panacur-C for dogs and do it myself if I felt comfortable. I got online and researched Panacur-C and it is indeed 100% the same thing as what he was going to offer (Fenbendazole). I did a bit more research and found dosing by gram weight instructions online from other herpers.

So do you feel confident the vet comfirmed the right parasite? Just a bit curious why the vet would diagnose pinworms but not be able to prescribe a common medication that is quite simple to dose themselves. Oh, well if your confident then get it done asap. I would love to see her healthy:)

At this point I'm willing to try anything that I can. I played games with local vet and they wanted way too much money just to have a fecal done, tried another local vet who couldn't see me for 2 weeks, finally found a vet to do the fecal for reasonable price same day just had to travel an hour. On top of it he didn't want to touch her after seeing her nip me, woohoo.

I think I'm going to go for it. Best case scenario it works great and I can pass on my successful trial to others. Worst case it doesn't and she winds up passing away which she would do anyways if nothing is done very soon.

And dont take that last paragraph as I don't care if she passes, I do care a ton, but my trial could possibly save others hard up for money lots of money after.

OMG, I am sick to my stomache. I just seen the photo in geckogirl's thread. That is exactly why I wrote what I wrote the other day. If my eyes don't fail me there are 2 possibilities. A bacterial infection eating away at the skin or she failed to check the water temp before a soak and burned him severely (based on the location of the wound). That leo needs a skin culture done, systemic antibiotics, pain medication before he ends up septic. I was going to warn her in the post but it's locked.

Sorry, anyway start it asap and of course with nutritional support (half water).
I am keeping my fingers crossed. Let us know if you see improvement and make sure you do not exceed the amounts of liquids a day per body weight.
