Hey guys. I'm looking into getting a crested sometime next year, and stumbled upon what seems to be a perfect deal. It comes complete with a gecko of your choice and everything! ;P

However, the terrarium included strikes me as just a few inches too small. I'm sure it'll be fine for a young crestie, but do you think I'll have to bump it up to an 18x18x24 case when it grows some? I think the deal is still worth getting--I can always repurpose the case for a smaller species--but figured I'd ask anyways.

I've seen Pangea referred by many people here on the forums, so I'm assuming they're pretty trustworthy and well-known.

Well, according to a lot of folks on the actual Pangea forums, it's just big enough. I may still upgrade to a larger tank when I get the money, but this will apparently work just fine. Huzzah!

The downfall of these, although they are great I have several is that for a young gecko it will not work. Young geckos do best in smaller setups, a gecko around 10g does well in a 10 gallon, a gecko that would do ok in that size wound be pushing 20g. So if you try putting a small gecko in such a large enclosure they often stress out and dont eat well in there. So I would highly recommend you start with a smaller cage unless youre going to get a young adult.

Oh! I'm aware of that. Thanks for the reminder, though. :D

I know "Kritter Keepers" and such are pretty frowned upon, but wouldn't one of the larger ones work for a young crestie? I don't see why it wouldn't, really.

I guess I could always get one of the really small Exo-Terras, but.. :/

pangea terrarium...

I have a couple of them and it's actually a perfect size for an adult gecko.Considering the price it is the best deal you can get too.:)

I thought it would be too big also. But I called Matt ( owner of Pangea ) and he said and I have to agree that it is fine for the geckos he sends with it. In my own personal experience I have kept mine in it for 3 months already and it is eating fine and gaining weight. However I do agree that when fully grown it may need a larger tank.

Alright, it's settled then~! Hopefully by the start of next year I'll have myself a new scaly baby to love on. We're cleaning the house out soon enough, so maybe I can start hoarding extra terrariums finally. You can never have enough spares, I think. ;P

Thanks guys!

Oh? What makes you say that? I do think I prefer glass over acrylic, but have you had any specific problems with it?

I'm trying to get info from as many sources as I can. :)

have 3 of the cages, they are a pain to put together but over all I do like them, easy to clean, light weight, stackable, I highly recommend them.

Putting one together will likely be a looooot easier than getting two guys to help me carry my beast 18x18x24 Exo-Terra aaaaaall the way across the house, hahaha!

Wimp I am a girl and I can carry mine! I just cant carry the one that is set up as a living viv, is it so heavy with all the dirt!

I will say one thing is that they loose humidity quickly, but there is a quick fix to that. I have 2 of them double stacked so the bottom one, the screen at the top is covered, the tank on the top I actually cut a piece of...errr dont know what it is called, it is a plastic board you often can use for displaying projects on. Anyways any sort of plastic will work cut it to fit and cover the bottom piece of screening. I did this on my other two and it helps with the humidity otherwise you will loose it too quickly.

And they are 18 gallons, plenty large enough for a single crested, I just wouldnt try squeezing two in there.

I did not like them because the screen rusted out in about 8 months, I also could not hold humidity to good at all.

Hey, I have back issues. I have an excuse! ;P

I've heard about the humidity problems, but it looks like a lot of people fix that by placing a sheet plastic/acrylic/glass on the top of the cage, which wouldn't be too difficult for me. As for the rusting screen...I suppose it can always be replaced, or I can make a new top. An acrylic panel or something similar with ventilation holes drilled in the top would work well as a replacement, don't you think? [Or is the front screened, too? I can't tell from any photos.]

Looks like I'll be getting in touch with my inner carpenter the deeper I get into this hobby. :D
