was just wondering, a friend of mine rescued a gecko that isnt eating and isnt very active. losing weight and has watery stools. sounds like a parasite but what do most parasite stools look like? anyone?

Parasite stools are usually watery and may be a different than usual color as well... orange, yellow, etc... I just brought one of my leos to my herp vet today. She was laying soft eggs, hasn't been eating, and is losing weight. I don't believe the soft eggs were from calcium deficiency, which I think may be confirmed by the fact that she has these other symptoms. I hope it's not crypto. The male that was in the same tub with her up until a month ago is perfectly healthy. Unfortunately the vet wasn't able to swab any poop for a fecal test, so I have to try and get her to eat. Hopefully I can get her to poop this week so I'll have something for the vet to test next week.
He's also going to order the necessary supplies to do an acid fast test for crypto. If he sends a sample to the lab for crypto testing it will cost around $160, but if he does it himself it will be $40-$50. He told me he had a red tail boa that died of crypto once, but that it's not all that common. Hopefully my gecko has some other parasite that can be treated and won't threaten my whole collection.
Anyway, if you need a good herp vet, this guy is in Rancho Cucamonga. It's Dr. Heise who works at the Banfield in the back of Petsmart. He is friends with Dr. Tom Greek, who is a well known So Cal herp vet. Dr. Greek is currently establishing his own practice in Yorba Linda. Dr. Heise is way closer to where I live though, and he did a great job removing an abcess from one of my kingsnakes last year.
My gecko got a shot of B12 today, and I'm gonna give her a few drops of calcionate syrup since I have a whole bottle here. I guess I'll quarantine her as well. I think I'm gonna put her in a 10 gal tank. I got a UVB bulb and fixture today, hopefully that may help as well. You can't really use a UVB bulb in an enclosed rack system, which is why I'm thinking an aquarium setup will be best for quarantining her.

Assuming the gecko's environmental needs are met (temperature, humidity, etc.), a veterinary fecal examination is recommended. Different parasites require different medication treatments. Also, keep in mind that bacterial infections do NOT show up on routine fecal exams.
