Just wanted to verify what these guys are. I picked them up from a local here that was selling them as "common ground geckos". I'm thinking Pictus?

I was pretty sure, but since these are my first I thought I'd better make sure before I started looking for potential mates.

I bought them as a pair, sight unseen, and when I got up there it turned out they were both males and housed together. The one pictured is the larger of the two, the smaller one is runty, missing it's tail and is thinner from being dominated by the big male. I bought them both anyway, although I'll probably only use the big guy for breeding and just let the little one be a pet.
Thanks for the ID help! :)

Why not post a pic of the small one. It's possible it was one of the smaller species.

Heh, he's not easy to get pictures of, he kept trying to jump out of the box and wouldn't just straighten out on the tape like a good little gecko. Here's some pictures though, he's standing tall on his front legs, so not the best shots, but if I were to make a guess of his size snout to tail tip he'd probably be close to six inches long.

Wow, sorry I forgot to resize the second one, here it is resized:

I'd very much be interested in a female. Shoot me an email at [email protected]

I'll go get pics of the smaller one for you gecko :)

Definitely a full grown P. picta. I recently got into them recently with a group of xanthics. Interesting little geckos and you certainly got some nice ones.

Here's the smaller one, he's looking a little better after being seperated into his own box and getting a belly full of crickets, but still very thin.

I seperated them as soon as I got them home. Poor little guy has had it rough, I'm guessing the larger male didn't give him much space when it came to territory or food.
The guy I bought them from didn't realize that that were both males, and that they were territorial creatures. He had them both in a ten gallon tank competing for food and a single hide. It's no wonder this little guy didn't thrive.

You got it! :)

BTW Haroldo - Xanthic males are known for snapping the neck of females. Put them in for mating for a couple days, take them out and keep them separately!

Xanthic males are known for snapping the neck of females....[/QUOTE said:
OMG!

* Mental note to self, NEVER buy any of THOSE! *

Is it just the Xanthic males getting carried away during mating or are they so aggressive they'll attack females in their territory, despite the fact that they're females? It amazes me how some animals have managed to survive with some of the issues they have, lol.

I'll stick to my gentler species! :p
