Perlite as laybox medium

I've heard so much about what to use as the laybox medium/substrate and im gunna be using perlite as the incubation medium and is it okay to use it for the laybox too? if not what do u guys recommend?

some of the pieces of perlite are too big to pass through the digestive tract of a gecko. i use vermiculite; looking at the feces, it's obvious that the geckos eat a lot of it and that it passes easily. it is relatively inert.

damp paper towels work great too.
