my gecko was previously fed super worms for most of his life... i got some mealies because they were finally in stock at the store where i work and have been giving him a mix of the two bugs every other day. now he won't take super worms, he licks them then turns his head but he eats the mealies readily. it takes so many of the little worms to fill him up now.

i wouldn't care since i hate super worms myself but meal worms aren't that commonly available and he'll eat a tub of 50 in a week. do you think if i just offer supers he'll eat them when he's hungry enough? i don't want these things to go to waste.

I have a picky eater as well. My only male named Rip. He loathes superworms apparently because he would rather starve than eat one. So It depends on the geckos personality and how stubburn they are. Rip did not eat for 2 weeks when repeatedly offered superworms but throw a mealie his way and he gobbles it up with no problem...:main_rolleyes:

i totally spoiled him with those mealies... he used to gobble up super worms like mad. a week ago he ate 7 of them. i got him some giant mealworms, they're a bit more substantial.

i'm just glad he's not hooked on wax worms.

Hypothetically, he should eat when he gets hungry enough. Giant mealworms are treated with hormones and designed for fishing, so they dont make good feeders. You could look into breeder you own mealworms. Theyre very easy and low maintenance to breed. Basically all you have to do to breed them is ignore them til they turn into beetles, then put them in a container with food and moisture and theyll start breeding.

you live in NY and mealworms aren't readily available?

I live in nyc and all they sell is mealworms, waxworms and crickets.

I've been told that if you want to switch them to keep feeding that thing and they'll eat is sooner or later because they won't go hungry bc they're being foolish.

i live in upstate NY if that makes any difference... when we get them in stock they sometimes only send 6 containers. we only get "periodic shipments" and when they come in people fight over them.

i gave him a superworm with his food today and he licked the calcium off it so i put more on then he ate it. he didn't want another one though, only mealies.
