Okay, so my two little hatchlings (I guess?) seem to be pretty picky when it comes to food!
First, a little history on them... We got them from Petco, obviously not the best place to get a Leo from.. but they were only $15 each. Anyway! I know that they were in good shape, because the store just got them in, as it was their grand opening. Their cage setup looked good, repti-carpet, cool/warm hides, a moist hide, etc... There were several in the cage, but all looked healthy. The employee said they were fed meal worms, but to me, it looked like they were also being fed the dried leopard gecko food, so that's what we bought them, since it already had all necessary vitamins/supplements.
We get them home, set their 20 gallon tank up (we house them together), a warm hide, cool hide, moist hide, tile as substrate, 50 watt day/night heat lamps, (don't have them a UTH yet) humidy/temp gauge, water, and a small cap of the dried insects.
They seemed to eat the dried insects no problem. I never saw them actually eat, but they must have, the insects were thrown around the bowl, and we found poop. They just seemed to like a big mess around their bowl! I started reading up on live insects, read they prefer moving food, so I buy some crickets and dust.
I gutload, dust, and put some in the cage. One of them ate them immediately. He ate like 4, the other only ate 1 or two. But the next day, they would not eat the crickets! So I decide to try meal worms. Same thing happens. Ate them once, after that they have no interest. I just think its really weird that they would prefer to eat the already dead insects! Plus they don't seem to digest them as well.
I'm just wondering if anyone else's leos are as stubborn, or has had similar experiences, or even just your thoughts?
